Stacey Hambley -"The Courageous Queen"
Stacey has lived here in Dampier since 2007, along with her husband Guy and their two children. Currently she is the registrar for the Dampier Sharks Football Club. She has held this role for two years but has been involved with the Club for many years on a general volunteer basis.
Stacey also volunteered at Dampier Primary School P&C during the time her children attended and played a big part of two school fetes, single handedly organising and running a pizza stall.
At the age of 32 Stacey was diagnosed with breast cancer and whilst other people may have quietly wept under a blanket, not Stacey! She wanted to get out there and make sure that all who came after her would not find it as tough battling their diagnosis while isolated from the support that residents further south can take for granted.
Stacey set up the charity REACH US - Pilbara Inc (Regional & Extended Areas Cancer Help, Understanding & Support Services). Whilst still undergoing her own treatment she began the process of registering REACH US as a charity with Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission, applied for and received Deductible Gift Recipient status and set REACH US up as an incorporated Not-for-Profit charity.
Stacey then also secured funding in the form of large donations from Monadelphous, UGL Cape and Worley Parsons, to enable REACH US to begin providing the ancillary support services it was intended for. So far three local Dampier families have received support from REACH US and that number is sure to grow as more people become aware that REACH US is here to help.
Stacey has been heavily involved in planning fundraising events including last year’s and this year's highly successful Superhero Quiz Nights. She has been the Chair of REACH US since its inception in 2017, donating her time on a daily basis to keep this charity running.
Stacey was nominated by Jasmin Ashcroft.
