A worthy recipient of the Community Spirit Award - Tanya Sholl

We are very excited to inform the Dampier Community that Tanya Sholl was the Winner of the City of Karratha’s Australia Day Community Spirit Award.

Tanya first arrived in Dampier in 1994 and during this 25+ years she has been involved in many organisations. She was on the HHBSC committee, Dampier Divers, Toast Masters and the Dampier Tennis Club committee for many years.  She was a coach for Dampier Junior Soccer Club, the Red Dogs, for one season and actively assists at the canteen and at training during the season for the past 3 years. In 2016 Tanya's son, Bay, started school at Dampier Primary School, Tanya has been volunteering at the school since then.  She helped in the classroom as an unpaid assistant for one day every week of the school year, right through Bay’s Kindy and Pre-Primary years. Tanya has been involved with the school’s Parents & Citizens Association for the past four years. As a committee member she attends monthly meeting and always offers to put her hand up for activities and fundraising events. She is currently the driving force behind the canteen working group, she volunteers weekly at the canteen with shopping and service and at their monthly planning meeting.

As well as all this ‘formal‘  volunteering Tanya is always available to help Dampier folk. She is forever collecting, entertaining and caring for other people’s children, she is first to step up to help people when they have crisis at home, whether its cooking dinners or helping to care for aged parents. Tanya is a steadfast member of not only the school community, but the whole of the Dampier , she goes out of her way to welcome new families and rarely says no when asked for assistance.

Tanya is generous, kind, non-judgmental, happy person with has a deep love of Dampier and its residents. She embodies all that is good about our Dampier community and does so in her own quiet unassuming ways. Congratulations Tanya Sholl for achieving the City of Karratha’s Community Spirit Award. We are so proud and delighted with your achievements and lucky to have you in our lives.

Congratulations to all yesterday deserving Winners. Thank you all for helping to make our community a better place to live.
