Roslyn "Roz" Powell - "The Bowls Queen."

Roz and her partner Peter have lived here in Dampier for the past year, having been in Karratha for the previous 14 years.  Roz has committed most of her time and energy to the Dampier Bowls Club over the past five years.  She is without a doubt the backbone of the Club and has certainly given it a new lease on life.  Currently she is the Secretary and the Events Coordinator for the Club.

Roz is the driving force behind the Wednesday evening ‘Scroungers’ and the Friday night ‘Barefoot Bowls’ events.  Often she is the only volunteer there and keeps all the bowlers happily feed and adequately hydrated.

Each year Roz organises and manages the Dampier Lawn Bowls Annual Carnival.  She attracts competitors from all over the Northwest and from as far south as Geraldton and Dongara.  This well organised fun event continues to bring the other clubs back again year after year.

As the Events Coordinator, Roz overseas all functions and events throughout the year, often staying at the Club well into the night to ensure the functions run smoothly.  She manages to cater for everyone’s needs, from social groups to corporate clients, always accommodating their particular preferences.

Roz liaised with local organisations to secure sponsorship and funding for the much needed upgrades to the Club.  She has helped maintain the wonderful history of the Dampier Bowling Cub whilst giving it the facelift it deserved.

Roz was nominated by Vanessa Archer.
