The Dampier Community Association (DCA) is pleased to be hosting our fourth annual Dampier Photography Awards and Exhibition. Created to showcase and celebrate the talents of local photographers of all ages and abilities, these Awards are open exclusively to residents of the City of Karratha area. With our community’s support this has become another of the DCA’s successful and highly anticipated annual events. 

Aiming to inspire local photographers to capture unique photos that will captivate their audience, this year’s theme is ‘Form’. This may be the human form, geometric lines and patterns, a structural form, free form, sculptural form, or even how something is created, developed or formed over time. We look forward to viewing how our local snappers will portray their interpretation of ‘Form’ when entering the ‘Theme’ category. 

There are five categories to choose from in this year’s Dampier Photography Awards: Theme, A Bloody Good Shot, A Bird’s Eye View, A Monochrome Moment and Shutterbugs (Youth). All visitors to the Main Exhibition will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite photograph in the ‘People’s Choice’ Award. Our Judge for this year’s event will be announced shortly.

An exclusive invitation-only Opening Night event will be held on Friday 19 September, where entrants, sponsors and guests will have the first opportunity to view the Exhibition and purchase their favourite photo. Category winners will be announced, prizes will be awarded and the creative achievements of our local photographers will be celebrated. The Exhibition at the Dampier Community Hall will then open to the public over the next week, followed by a four-week Winners Exhibition on display at the Dampier Community Hub Foyer.

 The DCA is proud to manage the Dampier Photography Awards with the support of our Major Sponsor, the City of Karratha, valued local category sponsors JWM Networks, Mountway Finance Wunbungoo (Fyfe) and Rio Tinto, and the assistance of our community members. We are proud to present these Awards, an important grass roots cultural event, supporting all local photographers, and particularly encouraging young, amateur and emerging snappers to pursue photography and build their creative confidence.
